Susannah
Aboff withstood the heat and humidity
that prevailed at Stonewall, the site
of the 76th Women's Trans National Golf
Association Championship in Elverson,
Pennsylvania. She also faced the challenging
golf game of Jordyn Wells to become
the 2006 Trans Amateur Champion. The
grueling 36 hole final match was full
of suspense, good play and grit.
Aboff,
a Princeton sophomore, and Wells, a
Michigan State junior, played together
in the second round of qualifying on
Tuesday accompanied by the Trans Am
Medalist Thuhashini Selvaratnam. Their
games were evenly matched on day two
of qualifying and in the final 36 hole
match play round. Both competitors were
happy to call it a day with Aboff commenting
that the Trans was the longest tournament
that she had played and Wells declaring
that 36 holes on the final three days
of the tournament resulted in the longest
week of golf that she could recall playing.
As
the final putt was holed, the electricity,
lost on Tuesday evening when an electrical
storm cast its spell upon the event,
was suddenly restored. The Stonewall
staff were absolutely life savers in
supplying food and water to players
as the days without electricity continued
through the week.
